Build Around Life

Seventeen essays for Koleksiyon, a Turkish furniture manufacturer, arranged as a spiral so the section’s index is also its image. I worked on it at Build in Amsterdam, as part of the full site.

Build Around Life is the editorial part of the site: pieces on learning, healing, deep work and circular systems. A list of seventeen titles reads as a list, and a reader decides whether to care before opening any of them. So the index is a figure: cards in concentric rings, each ring turned against its neighbour, around the section title. Nothing is labelled until you approach it.

The rings turn independently as the page scrolls, each at its own speed, so the pattern is never the same twice.

On load the cards arrive staggered, which keeps a shape this regular from reading as an exported image.

Hovering stops the rotation and brings the colour up across the field. At rest the spiral is grey and moving; under attention it is still and saturated. That says the figure responds without a tooltip, a cursor change or a label.

Clicking a card carries its thumbnail into place in the article instead of swapping pages, so the card you chose is still in view when the text arrives.
